Technical Fibre Products Ltd. (Schenectady, N.Y.) will showcase its Optiveil, Optimat and Tecnofire materials, designed for the surface engineering of composites. Optiveil and Optimat are said to provide a high-quality surface finish while imparting functionality such as conductivity, EMI shielding and corrosion and abrasion resistance. Tecnofire is said to offer effective integrated passive fire protection for composites. TFP will also exhibit some of the world's lightest nonwovens, including an ultra lightweight carbon veil at 2 g/m². These lightweight materials can be employed as a fabrication aid, acting as a carrier for fragile materials or adhesive films with minimum weight addition. Other new developments also include recycled carbon nonwovens and an extended range of lightweight thermoplastic veils comprised of PEEK, nylon, PEI and PPS. These thermoplastic veils can be incorporated as interlaminar layers in a composite structure to improve fracture toughness by reducing microcrack.
