SP, the marine business of Gurit UK (Isle of Wight, U.K.), has launched Corecell M-Foam, a new structural marine foam core compatible with polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy resin systems. Reported features are high shear strength and elongation; low weight and resin uptake in infusion processes; and high-temperature stability in prepreg processes. Other benefits include chemical resistance, toughness, fine cell size and “knife-cuts,” which ensure resin absorption is low, saving weight and cost. It’s said to be easy to machine, and it offers lower density variation in four grades (M60, M80, M100 and M130), each with a range of thicknesses and multiple resin infusion formats.
