Huntsman Advanced Materials (The Woodlands, Texas) has launched the new Araldite 2000 PLUS series of structural adhesives. Re-engineered from its existing family of Araldite structural adhesives, the 12 new epoxy, methacrylate and polyurethane systems are said to produce long-lasting bonds with high shear, peel and compression strength on a range of substrates. The series includes Araldite 2018, a low-viscosity, easy-to-handle polyurethane formulated for bonding tough-to-join thermoplastics (e.g., ABS and PC) as well as SMC and other glass-reinforced thermosets. The two-component system attains handling strength after four hours at room temperature or four minutes at 212°F/100°C. Araldite 2055 is a gap-filling polyurethane designed for use in joining polyamides, thermoset composites, ABS, metals and ceramic substrates. It has a one-hour pot life and can be cured within 20 minutes at 212°F/100°C.
