Dassault Systèmes (Paris, France and Providence, R.I.) has announced the availability of CZone, an add-on product for Abaqus finite element analysis software, from the DS SIMULIA brand, for simulation of crush loads on structures made of composite materials. The add-on enables the user to accelerate the design and evaluation of energy-absorbing composite components and assemblies in automobiles, helicopters, aircraft, trains and other transport vehicles. A product of Engenuity, the software includes direct implementation of crush-based element force generation and failure for defined crush zones, typically located at the forward edges of a product. The add-on also determines the extent of composite material crushing as well as other modes of potential failure, such as delamination, fracture and buckling.
