Short-glass polypropylene resin

Asahi Kasei Plastics North America Inc. has launched Thermylene P8, a specially compounded short-glass polypropylene (PP) resin that is designed to provide good creep resistance at room temperature and similar creep resistance at elevated temperatures — performance comparable to long glass fiber-filled PP.

Asahi Kasei Plastics North America Inc. (Fowlerville, Mich.) has launched Thermylene P8, a specially compounded short-glass polypropylene (PP) resin that is designed to provide good creep resistance at room temperature and similar creep resistance at elevated temperatures — performance comparable to long glass fiber-filled PP. The materials expand the company’s PP portfolio, reportedly opening the door to applications traditionally specified in long-glass PP, while providing the economical benefits of short-glass PP. Available in a variety of glass loadings and colors, the material can be used in automotive (see photo), electronics, furniture, bath and building and construction applications that require long-fiber performance.
