Nanocor Inc., a subsidiary of AMCOL International Corp. (Arlington Hts., Ill., U.S.A.), announced the commercial introduction of Rheospan, a sag control additive for use in unsaturated polyester resin. It provides an alternative to traditional sag control materials, such as fumed silica and standard organoclays. Targeted to the marine, construction, and aerospace industries, the nanotechnology-based material reportedly delivers excellent sag control, but is easily incorporated into the resin, causing modest viscosity gains, which allow for more processing flexibility and product consistency.
