Axel Plastics Research Laboratories (Woodside, N.Y., U.S.A.) has developed MoldWiz INT-4082 internal mold release specifically to replace traditional zinc stearate in polyester bulk molding compounds (BMC) and sheet molding compounds (SMC). The release is designed as an additive for compounds used in automotive and other applications that require a nonfogging internal release that will not interfere with secondary processing. The new release is designed to address problems associated with volatility of residual zinc stearate in molded parts that are in service, and it eliminates the residue that zinc stearate tends to leave on part surfaces.
