West System (Bay City, Mich.) has introduced new 879 release and 881 breather fabrics for vacuum bagging applications. The release fabric is used during vacuum bagging to separate the absorber, breather and vacuum from the laminate. Made from tough, finely woven nylon, the fabric is treated with a release agent. Excess epoxy bleeds through and can be peeled easily from the cured laminate along with the fabric, leaving a smooth, textured surface ready for bonding or finishing. The breather is made from lightweight polyester, which provides good air passage within the vacuum envelope while absorbing excess epoxy. It comes in 45-inch/114-cm widths on 2-yd or 10-yd (1.83m or 9.14m) rolls.
