Primerless MMA, pultrusion resin, intumescent topcoat
Scott Bader Inc. has introduced three new products.
Scott Bader Inc. (Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, U.K.) has introduced three new products. Crystic Crestabond, a family of primerless methyl methacrylate (MMA) structural adhesives, bonds metals, composites and plastics. It is aimed at manufacturers in the bus, truck, rail, construction, marine and wind energy markets. A new pultrusion resin, Crestapol 1214, has been developed for manufacturing profiles that require very low shrinkage and a high-quality surface. It can be heavily filled with alumina trihydrate (ATH) — up to 200 phr — to satisfy a range of flame, smoke and toxic fumes standards for certain building, construction, rail and road mass transportation applications. Also new is Crystic Fireguard 75PA Excel intumescent fire protection topcoat, cured with a standard methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) catalyst at 2 percent addition by weight. The topcoat can withstand a direct flame at 700°C/1292°F for more than 60 minutes without the underlying laminate catching fire.
