Ashland Composite Polymers (Dublin, Ohio) has introduced three new unsaturated polyester resin formulations. The resins, available in one Class A and two low-density structural formulations, have been added to the company's AROTRAN line of resins for the transportation industry. The Class A formulation's specific gravity measures 1.6, while the two structural formulations have densities of 1.3 and 1.2. The Class A formulation reportedly provides excellent "paint pop" resistance in automotive applications of sheet molding compound, helping to decrease scrap and lower overall costs.
