Platen insulation sheets for compression molding

Haysite Reinforced Plastics has advanced the properties of its Thermalate and Heatmeiser line of compression-molded platen insulation sheet products.

Haysite Reinforced Plastics (Erie, Pa.) has advanced the properties of its Thermalate and Heatmeiser lines of compression-molded platen insulation sheet products. Composed of fiberglass-reinforced thermoset polyester composites, the sheets are placed between the press platens and the heated mold tools, minimizing heat transfer to the press in high-temperature manufacturing applications. Benefits include greater energy efficiency and temperature control and press durability in an asbestos-free solution. When installed between the platen and mold, the series is said to offer high compression strength, high service temperature (up to 550°F/288°C), low thermal conductivity, low moisture absorption and thickness tolerance vs. asbestos, mica, calcium silicate and other laminate insulation alternatives. The system is designed to minimize the transfer of heat to the production press, reducing the costs associated with excessive utility usage, machinery wear/breakdown and product quality/stability/uniformity.
