Nelcote Inc. (a subsidiary of Park Electrochemical Corp., Melville, N.Y.) has introduced Nelcote F-529, a new halogen-free phenolic prepreg for aerospace and mass transit interior applications. The new prepreg is said to provide the flame/smoke/toxicity (FST) performance required for aerospace interior applications and has been formulated specifically for low heat-release properties (below 20/20). In addition, the material’s bright white finish reportedly provides aircraft interior manufacturers with a surface that will have minimal effect on the color values of decorative finishes. Nelcote F-529 is compatible with compression molding processes as well as vacuum-bag/oven cure and autoclave cure. Further, the prepreg’s resin is self-adhesive when used in combination with honeycomb sandwich panels.
