Huntsman Advanced Materials (The Woodlands, TX, US) entered the benzoxazines market at CAMX 2014 with the introduction of three products:
- XU 35 500 is a reactive diluent formulated to reduce the viscosity of benzoxazines and other resin formulations, facilitating improved handling and out-of-autoclave processing. The diluent also reduces surface tension and improves resin wettability, reportedly resulting in greater composite part quality. XU 35 500 is produced from a natural resource known as cardanol, a liquid derived from cashew shells.
- XU 35610 is a bisphenol A-based thermoset system that produces dimensionally stable, virtually void-free composites. XU 35610 benzoxazine has a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 160°C. The high modulus material is stiffer than epoxy resins, with flexural and tensile moduli >5,000 MPa. It also offers desirable electrical properties and hot/wet properties and lower water absorption.
- XU 35910 is a formulated thiodiphenol-based resin that produces a high flexural modulus (4,500 MPa) and high Tg. It is designed for curing at lower temperatures and is suitable for fabricating durable, flame-resistant laminates with good hot/wet performance. Viscosity is 100-500 cps at 110°C.
