NaturalNano Inc. (Rochester, N.Y.) has introduced Pleximer, a turnkey nanocomposite additive of halloysite clay nanotubes concentrated and mixed with various polymer materials using the company’s proprietary process. According to the company, the additive’s nanotubes do not require exfoliation, and therefore can be used with standard processes and equipment and a variety of polymers, making it easier for composite part manufacturers to participate in nano-based product development (participation previously required investment in specialized equipment). Other benefits reportedly include reduction of production cost by eliminating process steps as well as stronger, lighter, less brittle and more uniform output.
