Formax (Narborough, U.K.) launched at the Composites Europe 2010 show (Sept. 14 to 16, Essen, Germany) a new product called MultiCore, a multipurpose core fabric for the marine, automotive, industrial and construction markets. MultiCore is a range of stitched core fabrics that combine layers of reinforcement with infusable core materials. Reported benefits include optimized resin flow to allow controlled usage; high drapeability allowing for complex mold forms; uniform and consistent behavior in the vacuum process; and high-quality surface finishes. It reportedly can be adapted to maximize performance for any application with a choice of core materials, densities and thicknesses. The reinforcements offered on either side of the core include standard chopped mats or continuous filament mats. Formax’s multiaxial fabrics can also be integrated into the design to provide directional reinforcement and optimize strength.
