ELF Products Inc. (Tucson, Ariz., U.S.A.) offers trademarked All-A-Board composite panels, made of recycled plastic cellulose reinforced with glass fibers, as replacement material for marine plywood. Reportedly more durable and stronger than other plywood replacements, it surpasses them in compressive strength (3,000 to 4,000 psi), screw retention (400 to 500 lb) and resistance to water absorption (less than 1 percent, in recent tests). Intended for use as backer blocks, stringers, boat bulkheads and flooring, it adheres directly to fiberglass (using a polyester bonding veil) and possesses shear strength double that of marine plywoods and urethanes.
