Ashland Performance Materials, Composite Polymers (Dublin, Ohio) has developed AME VPRO-012, a new barrier coat for professional boatbuilding applications. The coating is said to provide good surface profile and blister protection, when applied with the standard gel coat spray equipment that is available in typical boat shops, and is designed for use above or below the waterline. The barrier coating reportedly can be sprayed on as soon as the gel coat “gels” for a wet-on-wet application. The product formulation complies with the Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) for air quality standards.
