HD Series Marine Gel Coats, a new line from HK Research Corp. (Hickory, N.C.), are based on HK’s proprietary acrylic-modified, 100 percent NPG/isophthalic polymer backbone and are formulated to meet the need for high-quality exterior marine gel coat applications. The HD Series gel coats have hazardous air pollutant (HAP) contents below the EPA Boat MACT maximum (the gel coats contain less than 33 percent styrene) and are designed to be blush resistant and have excellent performance on exposure to UV. The products also have reportedly user-friendly application (flow, leveling and air release), and are easily repaired. Enhanced air release improves film quality and makes colors stand out, says the company.
