ITW Plexus (Danvers, Mass., U.S.A.) offers Plexus MA557 two-part methacrylate adhesive, designed for the structural bonding of large assemblies. With a working time of about 90 minutes at room temperature, the product is suitable for bonding composites, thermoplastic and thermoset, including ABS, acrylics, FRP, polyesters (including DCPD-modified), PVC, urethanes, styrenics, and vinyl esters. It requires virtually no surface preparation, bonds to gel coats, and eliminates time-consuming and costly grinding, plus it has the stackability needed for larger jobs, but eliminates adhesive "swim" (slide) and sag, even on vertical surfaces, and will not boil in gaps up to 1.5 inches wide, says the company. Mixed as dispensed at a 10:1 ratio, the adhesive cures to a tensile strength of 2,200 to 2,500 psi. It also resists hydrocarbons, salt solutions, and acids and bases in solution (from 3 to 10 pH).
