FARO Technologies Inc.’s (Lake Mary, Fla.) new series of laser-based scanning systems and affiliated software includes Laser Scanner LS, a portable, computerized measurement device that scans, digitally recreates and records all of an object’s or area’s dimensions, producing a full-color, 3-D image of the product. Companion software, FARO Scene v4.1, allows the user to view, administrate, calibrate, filter and manage the large, 3-D point clouds collected with the scanner. Version 4.1 reportedly increases productivity by reducing onsite scanning time. Also new is the Super Mobile Laser Scanner Kit, a portable laser scanner that can be used in the field at work sites and other locations. It includes a Wi-Fi/WLAN scanner connection that allows control from a PDA, mobile phone, laptop or other Internet-equipped device.
