Interplastic Corporation (St. Paul, MN, US) has developed PS-110-PMLN Low Density Molding Compound, an improved version of their PS-100-PMLN product, which is typically used in “squish molding” operations. Squish molding uses matched male and female molds to produce parts finished on both sides. PS-100-PMLN has been used successfully by many customers that skin coat their parts — use a light veil or chopped strand mat (e.g. 1 oz/ft2) as an outer “skin” ply. The new PS-110-PMLN responds to a market need for a product that will work equally well where only a gel coat is used. Both products reportedly provide a strong, low density (6.0 – 6.9 lb/gallon) material for great looking parts like boat hatch covers with reduced weight.
