FARO Technologies Inc. (Lake Mary, Fla., U.S.A.) introduces the FARO Laser Tracker SI.2 portable coordinate measuring machine (CMM). The tripod-mount system projects a laser beam that is bounced back by a reflector mounted on or dragged across a part surface. Using the angle and the distance to the target, system software calculates and records the position of each point. The system has a 230-ft range and maintains 0.001-inch accuracy. New features include Smart Warm-Up, which automatically heats the system to stable running temperature in half the time required for the previous model; Self Comp, which performs a fully automated compensation routine in only five minutes, to quickly ensure high accuracy; and Active Thermal Compensation, which reduces fluctuations in measurement accuracy (measurement drift) by actively responding to changes in the Tracker's temperature. .
