LCOA Composites (Lake Forest, Calif.) has expanded its product line with a new ballistic hybrid NIJ Level IIIA composite for ballistic shields, body armor, automotive armor and any application where lightweight Level IIIA protection is required. The solution weighs less than 1 lb/ft2 and is reportedly priced less than a standard woven aramid fiber solution weighing 1.5 lb/ft2. The manufacturer reports that this hybrid material is priced at approximately 20 percent less than a UHMWP and 5 percent less than a woven aramid product.
