Innegra Technologies LLC (Greenville, S.C.) reports that its Innegra S Fiber is in production and will be available for purchase in 2012. The high-modulus polypropylene fiber technology is said to provide a significant reduction in weight for composites while increasing their ability to absorb energy when combined with other fibers. After reviewing customer feedback and internal quality systems, the company has issued standard product characteristics. The company released the following specifications that apply to both 940- and 2800-denier untwisted fiber tow: density, 0.84 g/cm3; ultimate tensile strength, 8.0 gram-force per denier (g/d); elongation at break, 9.5 percent; and elastic modulus, 200 g/d (tested per ASTM D2256).
