Bulk Molding Compounds Inc. (BMCI, West Chicago, Ill., U.S.A.) unveiled its new, patented GET (Gas Evacuation Technique) process, a gas-assist injection molding method for thermosetting bulk molding compounds. Gas-assist injection molding (GAIM) has been used with more expensive thermoplastic materials to achieve a cost parity with thermosets but, until now, had not been successfully commercialized for thermosets. GET will now offer injection molders of thermosets a material savings of 30 to 40 percent and a decrease in cycle times of over 50 percent, according to the company. The application's wall thickness reportedly can be controlled with this process, therefore the part's strength requirements are not compromised. Select 248
