ANSYS Inc. (Southpointe, Pa.) has released ANSYS 11.0, which includes new features in analysis, meshing and optimization, including Variational Technology in the solver, which reduces the overall number of iterations for nonlinear static and transient analyses, allowing the user to perform “what if” scenarios faster and more easily. The new version also extends modeling to solid elements, not just hollow elements as in earlier versions. That “solids” support also extends to ANSYS’s integration with VISTAGY Inc.’s (Waltham, Mass.) FiberSIM draping software. Other ANSYS 11.0 enhancements are new failure criteria for shells and solids, including improvements to delamination modeling capabilities, faster initial solutions and faster re-solves for parameter changes.
