Huntsman Advanced Materials (Los Angeles, Calif., U.S.A.) now offers extrudable, rapid-setting Epocast 1633-series high-strength epoxy syntactics in four colors, light blue, orange, grey and black. The self-extinguishing and halogen-free materials have two- to five-minute work life and are suitable for rapid reinforcement of fasteners and inserts in honeycomb-cored components such as aircraft floors, bulkheads and overhead bins. Qualified to Boeing BMS 5-28, Type 18, Class 2 and Airbus AIMS 08-08-001-04, the materials gel at 25°C/77°F and cure in five hours at 49°C/125°F (two hours at 66°C/150°F, exhibiting compressive strength of 6,500 psi and lap shear strength of 1,400 psi, with a service temperature of 71°C/160°F.
