Aditya Birla Chemicals Thailand Ltd. (Bangkok, Thailand), a part of Aditya Birla Group of India, introduced Epotec, a new-generation epoxy resin system for infusion of wind blades. Reportedly based on new chemistry developed for blade manufacture, the resin exhibits long out-time, slow viscosity development and lower exothermic heat reaction, yet it offers good strength development during cure. The system, which the company says has mechanical properties comparable to those of competitive systems currently in use in wind blade manufacture, has been approved by standards organization Germanischer Lloyd.
