Wessex Resins and Adhesives Ltd. (Romsey, U.K.) has introduced the West System G/flex 650 and 655, toughened, versatile, liquid epoxies for permanent waterproof bonding of fiberglass, ceramics, metals, plastics, damp and difficult-to-bond wood. G/flex 650, with a modulus of elasticity of more than 1 GPa, is said to be more flexible than standard epoxies, but stiffer than adhesive sealants. G/flex 650 may be modified using WEST SYSTEM fillers and additives and can be used to wet out fiberglass tapes and fabrics. Mixed at a 1:1 ratio, G/flex offers 45 minutes of working time at 22°C/72°F, becomes a solid in 3 to 4 hours and achieves a workable cure in 7 to 10 hours. G/flex 655 a thickened 1:1 epoxy, formulated to create structural bonds that absorb the stress of expansion, shock and vibration. It will glue a wide range of dissimilar materials, resinous woods and exotic woods. It is said to be most effective in the repair of aluminum, plastic and wooden boats, kayaks and canoes.
