Curbell Plastics Inc. (Orchard Park, N.Y.) has developed what it says is the world’s first tooling board made using predominantly recycled materials — the chips generated when tooling board is machined. RAKU-TOOL WB-1450 tooling board is manufactured using polyols obtained from Rampf Eco-systems GmbH Co. & KG (Pirmasens, Germany). Curbell reports that Rampf has developed an advanced thermal glycolysis process to convert waste chips to polyols, a raw material used in tooling board production. The board has a density of 90.5 lb/cu-ft and is designed to present an alternative to red foundry boards. It is recommended for foundry patterns, thermoform molds, jigs and fixtures.
