Rampf Group Inc. (Wixom, MI, US), a long-time supplier of tooling pastes and boards, showed CMX 2014 attendees its portfolio of RAKU-TOOL products for modeling and mold construction. Introduced at CAMX was the company’s RAKU-TOOL Close Contour Casting concept, well-known in Europe but new to the U.S. Rampf produces and delivers a three-dimensional cast shape, very close to the final contour of a customer’s tool, direct from a CAD file. Casts are produced in Rampf’s Lake Forest, CA facility, by applying an epoxy tooling paste over a lightweight supporting structure, followed by cure of the paste. The concept minimizes work for the customer, accelerates tool production, and needs only minimal machining to achieve final mold profile. The paste material is suitable for prepreg cure, with a use temperature greater than 121°C.
