Paratherm Corp. (Conshohocken, Pa., U.S.A.) has developed Paratherm CR, a new cryogenic-range heat transfer fluid that has proven to be far more efficient at reducing temperatures from chemical reactions than any other fluid that the company had previously used. Currently used by Bedoukian Research Inc. (Danbury, Conn., U.S.A.) to produce fragrances, insect pheromones, unique food flavorings, pharmaceuticals, and ag-chem products, can be chilled to -60°C/-76°F or lower using liquid nitrogen. This is outside the range of d-limonene, a fluid the company had been using and other fluids tested over the years have either thickened or frozen up at temperatures below -50°C/-58°F. Paratherm CR's high ASTM flash point ratings also improve plant safety.
