Rex-Cut Products Inc. (Fall River, Mass.) has introduced a line of cotton fiber-mounted points that provide smooth, controlled blending and finishing for precision applications such as mold repair and maintenance. They are constructed from nonwoven cotton fiber that is impregnated with aluminum oxide or silicon carbide abrasive grit and then laminated and pressed into popular shapes. They reportedly provide smooth controlled blending and finishing, without changing a part’s geometry. The tips are suitable for use on aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, exotics, and alloys. Standard styles include "A" and "B" shapes in varying sizes and thicknesses on 0.125-inch/3.175-mm and 0.25-inch/6.35-mm mandrels. Other applications include edge-breaking, chamfering, deflashing and cleaning.
