Saint-Gobain Vetrotex (Valley Forge, Pa.) has introduced 979 chopped strand reinforcement, designed for optimum performance in thermoset bulk molding compound (BMC) processes. The material reportedly offers higher physical properties, excellent pigmentation, low static and fuzz, bright white coloration, and excellent dry flow characteristics to accommodate continuous mixing processes. Engineered for BMC injection, compression and transfer molding applications, the fiber's sizing is specifically formulated for maximum compatibility with polyester and vinyl ester resin systems.
