Carbon fiber manufacturer SGL Group (Wiesbaden, Germany) is showcasing at JEC Europe 2013 very fine stretch-broken carbon fiber yarns that are said to be suitable for textile processing, thanks to their high tensile strength and low yarn count. Another SGL Group development relates to new high-performance belts made of flexible carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). These carbon fiber composite belts are said to combine flexibility with high tensile strength and superior fatigue resistance. Additionally the company is focusing on carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastics that can be used as structural materials in multi-material design, which is of special interest to the automotive area.
