Bonded joint simulation

Composites design, simulation and analysis specialist Firehole Composites reported at SAMPE 2012 that it has worked with Lockheed Martin and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to develop a software module that assesses and simulates complex bonded joints and 3-D woven preforms.

Composites design, simulation and analysis specialist Firehole Composites (Laramie, Wyo.) reported at SAMPE 2012 that it has worked with Lockheed Martin (Los Angles, Calif.) and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (Ohio) to develop a software module that assesses and simulates complex bonded joints and 3-D woven preforms. Based on Firehole’s established Helius platform, the module predicts bonded joint performance and damage tolerance. Firehole officials report that the software is scalable and applicable to a variety of composite structures and components.
