Cook Composites and Polymers (CCP, Kansas City, Mo., USA) reports that it has broadened its product line of EnviroGuard bio-based resins to include resin transfer molding (RTM), infusion, sheet molding compound (SMC), bulk molding compound (BMC) and fire retardants. This is in addition to the open mold resins introduced in 2010. CCP notes that a recent study of a sample of U.S. architects revealed that 42 percent of their clients request that environmentally-friendly products be used in order to reduce their energy consumption, improve their image or, in one third of cases, because it is intrinsically a good thing to do. In 2010, CCP with European sister company Cray Valley, launched a line of unsaturated polyester resins containing between 10 percent and 31 percent plant-based raw material, under the name of EnviroGuard.
