Ashland Composite Polymers (Dublin, Ohio), a business group of Ashland Performance Materials, a division of Ashland Inc., has developed AME VPRO-012, a new barrier coat for professional boat building applications. It is said to provide good surface profile and blister protection using standard gelcoat spray equipment and is designed for use above or below the waterline. The material can be applied with equipment that is readily available in typical boat shops and reportedly can be used as soon as the gelcoat “gels,” for a wet-on-wet application. It is compliant with the Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) for air quality standards.
