EG Balsa ARMOR, a new line of core products from I-Core Composites LLC (Cullman, Ala.), features an antimicrobial agent that is said to be environmentally friendly and compliant with EPA standards for inhibition of bacteria, mold and fungi. Designed to minimize resin absorption while maximizing the core/laminate bond, the core’s bond strength reportedly equals or exceeds that of standard EG Balsa products (uncoated, sanded surface). The core material features uniform resin absorption during lamination and is pigmented to improve the identification and removal of entrapped air and laminate voids and is stable in high relative humidity. According to the company, the core is compatible with virtually all resin systems.
