Huber Engineered Materials (Atlanta, Ga., USA), a division of J.M. Huber Corp., has launched MoldX A105, an optimized alumina trihydrate (ATH) that features fine particle size and a unique particle distribution flame retardant (FR) for pultrusion and wet-mat-based applications. The particle size distribution, coupled with very low retention on a 325 mesh screen, makes the ATH suitable for applications such as wet-mat molding and resin infusion where filler filtration via flow through the fiberglass mat is a concern. The ability to obtain higher filler loadings gives compounds produced with MoldX A105 ATH increased flame retardance and smoke suppression.  The low-viscosity performance of the material allows increased loading levels, from 125 to as high as 200 phr (depending on neat resin viscosity), allowing for increased FR performance. MoldX A105 ATH can be used in pultrusion, resin infusion molding, resin injection, wet-mat panel production, latex foam formulations, coatings and cured-in-place pipe.
