Patented Abranet abrasives from KWH Mirka Ltd. (Jeppo, Finland) reduce airborne dust in surface sanding operations by as much as 99 percent, according to the company. Suitable for composites, aluminum, primers, fillers, topcoats and clearcoats, the flexible materials are available in sheet or disk form for use on powered sanding equipment. The abrasive substrate features an abrasive-coated netting that collects dust in its thousands of tiny openings (see photos). The netting design facilitates dust extraction from the abrasive surface and contributes to the abrasive's longer useful life, thus resulting in overall lower life-cycle cost than traditional adhesives.
