360° laser templating system

Virtek Vision International Inc. (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) has released the latest version of its Iris Spatial Positioning System (SPS), which enables manufacturers to project laser templates 360° around parts. Iris v1.3 supports the use of multiple vision systems and laser projectors to enable users to instantly measure and project on parts that were previously impractical or impossible due to size. This helps guide the user through part assembly, digitizing, verification and masking tasks. Virtek says the software interface is designed to simplify complex processes so that new users can operate it with minimal training. Iris also combines the use of laser projection with 3-D vision technology to create a precision assembly technique called virtual tooling. It locates objects in 3-D space and locks on to CAD-specified assembly positions to guide the user through the assembly process.
