Biteam AB (Bromma, Sweden) has developed what it says is the first fully 3-D woven family of Pi cross-sectional profiles. The availability of different cross-sectional shapes of 3-D woven Pi profiles is said to offer structural engineers and designers unique flexibility when they design structures using profiled beams made of composite materials. According to the company, the profile variety opens up the opportunity to mix and match different 3-D woven profiles and enables relatively economical and quick modular construction. According to the company, 3-D woven Pi and other cross-sectional profiles can be produced in solid, shell, tubular and combination types to meet different application demands.
