CompositesWorld, publisher of High-Performance Composites and Composites Technology magazines, reports that the hotel discount ends today, March 22, for the 2011 Wind & Ocean Energy Seminar, April 13-14 at the Wyndham Portland Airport Hotel in South Portland, Maine, USA. Visit www.compositesworld.com/woe for lodging information.

Organized in association with the Maine Composites Alliance, the seminar will explore the market and opportunities in wind and ocean energy generation and will include speaker topics on technology, design and manufacturing, installation and repair.

Covering the growing wind blade maintenance and repair industry and its associated technologies, consultant Malcolm Rosenow will speak on the topic, "When the warranty expires: Repairing damanged wind turbine blades." The presentation will cover warranty and off-warranty issues, the composite materials supply chain, dealing with onsite repairs, repair examples and lightning strike solutions. In particular, Rosenow outlines the challenges of the traditional two-year warranty period for most wind blades and the issues surrounding management of off-warranty blades. This will be a critical issue because wind turbines installed in 2007 and 2008 are reaching the end of their two-year warranty period. Thus, there were more wind turbines coming out of warranty in 2010 than were being installed. Download a portion of Rosenow's presentation here.

Other agenda topics include composites in wind blades, floating platforms for offshore wind systems, tidal turbine technology, "small wind" and "community wind" concepts, wind blade repair, government initiatives, and a wind energy market outlook.
