Wind Energy Services Company (WES, Independence, Kan.) has opened a third wind turbine repair operation in Worthington, Minn. The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Molded Fiber Glass Cos. (Ashtabula, Ohio), has existing facilities in Independence, Kan., and Sweetwater, Texas. It chose the Minnesota location because the state ranks third in U.S. wind energy production and the facility site will be in reasonable proximity to second-ranked Iowa. Company technicians assess upkeep needs and perform on-ground or on-tower repairs to blades, nacelles and other components that suffer cosmetic or minor structural damage caused by lightning strikes, shipping and installation damage, structural cracking, leading-edge erosion and/or coating failure.
