WebCore material certified by Germanischer Lloyd

The GL certificate of approval qualifies WebCore's TYCOR W sandwich core products for use with 1.5 to 3.0 MW turbines that have blade lengths in the 40m to 60m range.

WebCore Technologies LLC (Miamisburg, Ohio) announced on Dec. 13 that its TYCOR W fiber-reinforced composite sandwich core products have earned a Certificate of Approval by Germanischer Lloyd (GL) for use in the manufacture of composite wind turbine blades. GL is the leading international design certification agency for the wind industry. In addition to TYCOR W’s family of products for wind blades, the certification includes the design and manufacture of TYCOR W products at WebCore’s Miamisburg manufacturing facility.

“This independent assessment of TYCOR W’s performance and manufacturing environment provides critical validation of our products and makes it easier for blade designers to specify TYCOR W,” said Doug Ventura, CEO for WebCore. “This certification represents another major accomplishment following on the heels of our recent capital infusion and strategic alliance with 3B, and positions WebCore to meet the needs of blade makers globally.”

The patented composite core material combines fiber reinforcements, such as E-glass roving or mat, with closed-cell, low-density foam in an engineered architecture. WebCore’s TYCOR W has been in use for more than two years in utility-class wind turbine blade. The GL certificate of approval qualifies TYCOR W for use with 1.5 to 3.0 MW turbines that have blade lengths in the 40m to 60m range.
