Web Industries (Atlanta, Ga., USA), a custom manufacturer and developer of services for flexible materials, announced on Jan. 31 that two of its manufacturing locations have recently received key industry certifications or registrations.

Its Atlanta facility has earned AS9100C certification; the Hartford, Conn., USA, location is now an FDA-registered Medical Device Establishment. These certifications are in addition to the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications that all five Web Industries manufacturing locations have earned, and the ISO 13485 certification that all Web Industries medical manufacturing locations hold.

AS9100C certification is an upgrade from the AS9100B certificate that the Atlanta facility received in 2008. It adds additional quality benchmarks, risk- and project-management methodologies, and record-keeping specifications to the already-exacting aerospace quality standard. To earn the AS9100C certificate, Atlanta's existing quality management systems, procedures and documentation were revised to accommodate the new requirements. Training has been conducted on the new methods to ensure that the Web Industries Atlanta staff can meet these new challenges.

FDA registration of the Hartford facility clears the way for Web Industries to offer expanded contract manufacturing and converting services in the medical device and diagnostics marketplace. The facility already holds ISO 13485 certification. FDA registration adds another layer of accountability by allowing the FDA to perform spot audits of the facility to ensure that good manufacturing practice (GMP) and quality system (QS) standards are being followed.
