Vestas will temporarily cease blade production in Colorado

Manufacturing will be on hold for the first part of 2010; 500 employees will be furloughed.

Vestas Wind Systems AS (Randers, Denmark) reports that it plans to cease production at its Windsor, Colo., blade manufacturing plant in the early part of 2010. The plant's 500 employees will be placed on furlough.

“There will be no layoffs,” Vestas spokesman Peter Kruse told the Fort Collins Coloradoan. “The first quarter historically is always a slow quarter." He said the production stoppage has been exacerbated by a tight credit market and the relatively low price of gas.
