Vestas receives 228-MW order in Romania

The deal with EDP Renováveis calls for 76 V90-3.0 MW turbines, which will be installed beginning first quarter 2009.

Vestas Wind Systems AS (Randers, Denmark) has received an order for a total of 76 units of the V90-3.0 MW turbine for two projects in Romania. The contract comprises supply, installation, a VestasOnline Business SCADA solution, as well as a five-year service agreement. The first turbines are expected to be installed by the end of 2009.

The order has been placed by Portugal-based EDP Renováveis, the third largest wind energy operator in Europe and the fourth largest operator in the world. At the customer’s request, details about the name of the project cannot be disclosed.

“We are very pleased with this order from EDP Renováveis, which is the result of a well-established relationship between the two companies. In the currently challenging economic and financial scenario, it is very important to receive this sign of confidence in our products and our technology from a leading company like EDP Renováveis,” says Juan Araluce, president of Vestas Mediterranean.

“Our global key account team in Vestas Mediterranean has been working very closely with other units in the Vestas organisation, including Vestas Central Europe and Vestas Americas to deliver the best solution to EDP Renováveis. We are very glad to collaborate with EDP Renováveis worldwide and to support directly their activities in the development of the wind energy industry across countries,” emphasises Juan Araluce.

“By the end of 2008, Romania had a total installed wind capacity of 76 MW. This is an important project for the Romanian market, and together with EDP Renováveis we look forward to contributing to expanding the wind capacity in this country,” says Hans Jørn Rieks, president of Vestas Central Europe.
