This week: JEC Composites 2011 in Paris

The composites industry's largest tradeshow, JEC Composites, starts this week in Paris, France, March 27-29; JEC has announced winners of its annual Innovation Awards.

Much of the composites industry's attention this week will be focused on Paris, France, where the annual JEC Composites trade show is taking place, March 29-31 at the Porte de Versailles convention facility on the south side of the city.

JEC gives out every year its Innovation Awards to composite parts, structures and technologies that are deemed a significant contribution to the composites industry. This year's winner are:

  • Materials: Cray Valley (France), intumescent resin and gelcoat meeting the highest fire railway standard
  • Bio- based Materials: Innobat (France), bio-sourced composite material for window frames
  • Thermoplastics: Cutting Dynamics Inc. (USA), thermoplastic seatbacks for the aerospace industry
  • Equipment: Advanced Composites Group Ltd. (U,K.), Carbovar technology for composite mold tools
  • Automation: Brötje-Automation GmbH (Germany), a fully-automatic machine to produce curved preforms in aircraft structures
  • Process: Sigmatex (U.K.), a novel offset weaving method to create a 3-D woven generic nodal structure
  • Applications/Aeronautics: Latécoère (France), an innovative aircraft structure with advanced stitched preforms using an RTM process
  • Applications/Automotive: Jacob Plastics GmbH (Germany), FIT Hybrid: a process for the production of composites hollow structures
  • Construction: 3B Fibreglass (Belgium), ventilated facade for the new Sheraton Hotel at the Milan Malpensa Airport
  • Civil Engineering: Acciona Infraestructuras S.A (Spain), a composite bridge beam
  • Applications/Sports and Leisure: NRG Wheels Ltd. (U.K.), new carbon/magnesium wheels for and high-performance vehicles
  • Transportation: Roelofs Kipperbouw BV (The Netherlands), composite tipper
  • Wind Energy: GAMESA Innovation & Technology (Spain), a new blade technology with a revolutionary, 100 percent automated manufacturing process
  • Special JEC Magazine Prize: MVC Componentes Plasticos LTDA (Brazil), inner lining for the covering surface of the new passenger terminal at the Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo, Uruguay
